Christian Youth In Action®

Christian Youth in Action (CYIA) is a short-term, summer ministry dedicated to the training and development of committed Christians (ages 14 and up) who want to be equipped to reach children for Christ. By completing the training program, you will be certified by Child Evangelism Fellowship to teach children and minister effectively to your neighbors, friends and relatives.

Levels of Training

Before training, students are placed at a training level that fits their needs. Often this is determined by age, years of experience in CEF ministry, and spiritual maturity. The staff and student together determine which training level is appropriate for the individual.

Junior Volunteer Missionaries

We encourage all youth to step out in faith to proclaim the Gospel in their communities. Therefore, we offer a special position to 12-13 year olds who want to serve. Our JV Missionaries are trained to lead songs, games, and other small activities during club time. They are trained on how to give a full Gospel presentation using the Wordless Book. JV Missionaries do not attend the week-long training camp.

Junior CYIA

Juniors are responsible for leading the missions segment of the club: teaching of a current day missionary, leading a missions focused song, and telling an action packed missionary story. Juniors often lead the opening components of club, many of the songs, and the review game at the end. Juniors must be 14 years or older.

SENIOR CYIA

Seniors are responsible for leading the Bible Lesson and Memory Verse during club. They are also trained to counsel any children who wish to learn more about how they can believe in Jesus. Seniors can also take on any responsibilities of the Junior if needed. Seniors must be 15 years or older.

CYIA INTERN

After 3 years of service, a student can serve as an Intern. Interns are first trained to properly evaluate other students in order to give constructive criticism and encouragement. Interns are also given various responsibilities within the local chapter such as evaluating younger students, teaching Junior classes, and assisting with office work. Interns must have served in CYIA for a minimum of three years, attended and passed the TCE course, and be 16 years or older.

What is involved in the training?

You will receive individual and group instruction from some of the most exciting, enthusiastic, and godly leaders of Child Evangelism Fellowship. These instructors will equip you to teach and counsel boys and girls to receive Christ. You will be placed in an evaluation group under one of these staff members with 2-3 other students and asked to practice presenting your part of club in front of your small group to receive guidance and encouragement.

What is the focus of the training?

Your training will be focused on preparing you to teach 5-Day Clubs ® . These are neighborhood Bible clubs for children held in backyards, one hour a day for five consecutive days during the summer. Our summer missionaries (YOU) teach exciting Bible lessons and true-to-life missionary stories. These clubs also include: singing, sharing, memorizing verses, and more fun ways to share the Gospel.

What are the benefits of CYIA?

As a result of summer missionaries teaching God's Word:

  • Boys and Girls are reached with the Gospel of Christ.

  • Children's lives are changed.

  • Your skills will sharpen in the areas of communication, teamwork, endurance, responsibility, and self-confidence.

  • Your faith and vision will grow deeper.

  • You will build new friendships that can last a lifetime.

  • You will build experience for service in your own local church, school or vocation.

Where is the training conducted?

The CYIA training is typically held at Camp Good News for 9 consecutive days. Here the students are able to study with their peers and work closely with their evaluators to refine the skills they will need for the remainder of the summer. Training camp is filled with worshipful chapel time, discipleship and encouragement, and fun games and activities.

Pre-training is held locally prior to training camp to ensure that the students are well prepared for the more intensive week of study.
